Kidney stones develop when certain minerals and salts in urine become highly concentrated and begin to form crystals. When urine is too concentrated due to insufficient fluid intake, these substances have a greater chance of combining and creating stones.

Drinking enough water helps dilute urine, reducing the concentration of stone-forming substances and allowing them to pass more easily through the urinary system. While hydration alone cannot eliminate all risks of kidney stones—because genetics, diet, and certain medical conditions also play roles—it is one of the most important preventive measures recommended by health professionals.

Instead, individuals should aim to drink regularly throughout the day and pay attention to signs that their body needs more fluids.
